TV is bad for us and the world would be a better place without it

First of all I don’t agree with this sentence because I like watching tv. I like watching The Simpsons, The ultimate survival and a programme called “Sé lo que hicisteis”.

In my opinion, TV isn’t bad for us because we need it to know what’s happening around our country or around the world. When you’re bored and outsite it’s raining, watching TV is a good solution for not beeing bored. It’s clear that a lot of people like watching football matches(SP), or races... and this is good for some business because there’re lots of advertisements.

Personally, I think that some people agree that TV is bad for us. Maybe because they hate some chat programmes like “Donde estás corazón?”, or some reality shows like “Fama” or Big Brother. I believe that some of those programmes’ targets are to fill the time because there’re lots of hours between the good programmes.

In conclusion, I’d say that TV isn’t bad as long as you don’t watch it too much. I watch it 3 or 4 hours a week and I think that is not a lot.

My holidays

Two years ago I went to Ireland with some classmates and two teachers. Three months before going to there we had studied a lot of useful expressions, some grammar, some Irish culture…
It was on 20th June and I was quite nervous at the beginning because it was my first trip by plane. However, when I was inside the plane I was relaxed. When we arrived, the weather had changed. We were wearing shorts and T-shirts and when we were in Dublin, it was pretty colder than in Girona. The bus was waiting for us and drove us to Malahide, another city near Dublin.

In Ireland, there’s one hour less than in Spain but the routines were extremely different. They eat only a packet lunch for lunch! I used to think that they eat some fried eggs or some bacon for breakfast. When I got up I went to the kitchen with Cudi because we were staying in the same house and we saw that they were eating some milk and cereals. I was really surprised by that but when they gave me my lunch, I looked it and it was a packet lunch. Then I thought that I was not wrong. It was easy to got used to it.

Those few days we did some activities like going sightseeing in Dublin, buying some souvenirs and postcards, taking photos to everything weird… The fist day they gave us a map and every day we went on foot from home to the school and from the school to home. We didn’t have to exchange our money because in Ireland there’s also the euro.

I think these holidays were really amazing and enjoyed all the time. I love travelling with my friends and I want to do it again.

Dear Silvia,
I’m going to tell you how I celebrate New Year’s Eve. Since I was a child my parents have a big dinner at home. Every year my aunt and my cousins come, my father’s aunt and my father’s uncle, my parent’s friends (they’re a couple) and us (my father, my mother, my brother and me).

First I help my mother to prepare all the things. My mother cooks, me and my brother tidy up the dining room and the kitchen and my father helps my mother. At half past nine my family and my parent’s friends usually arrive. Then we talk, we tell some jokes and when it’s ten o’clock we start dinner. We usually finish dinner a half an hour before midnight. After dinner, we switch on the TV and we watch some funny programmes. They usually broadcast summaries of funny things that had happened throughout the year. When it’s five to twelve we are already watching the TV with 12 grains of grapes. When the bells are ringing, I don’t know why but I start laughing and I can’t eat all the grapes at time. After that, it is the beginning of a new year. We kiss each other and we start dancing, singing… But I want to go out with my friends and I leave home more or less at half past twelve.

Last year, my friends and I, didn’t know what to do in New Year’s Eve because we weren’t 16 years old to go to the disco so we decided to go for a walk.
I think I’m not going to go out this New Year’s Eve because I work in a restaurant and those days there’s a lot of work.

Well, this is all I do on New Year’s Eve. Tell me what is your favourite festival or special occasion you and your family celebrate every year.
Write soon,

Marc
